Herb Vincent ?@LSUherbvin
LSU did NOT announce this. “@USATODAYsports: Tyrann Mathieu is "permanently ineligible to play football at LSU," the school announced"
Herb Vincent ?@LSUherbvin
To clarify: Tyrann Mathieu has the option to go to LSU as a student. LSU is not speculating on his football future.
Edited Title for Clarity

Herb Vincent is the guy who would know. Sounds to me they simply haven't decided yet.

Correct. Speculation about TM7 FB future is for TM7. He won't be at LSU, which is why they are not speculating

Herb Vincent (LSU SID) further muddies the water on TM7's status.. discredits GG
I would say he cleared it up more than anything. Guilbeau is a fricking hack.

I tweeted GG and Brando for them to check out Herb. They are starting to get a little too puffy for my taste.

ESPN got this one right sort of

How can you discredit GG, he never had any credit before. Total hack job. Makes you wonder how some people keep their jobs

All this can be handled pretty quickly. If LSU academics decides that TM doesn't have anymore eligibility then LSU athletics need to request a refund on that $4 million they just have LSU.

Herb Vincent (LSU SID)
It's not clear who is calling the shots here, but Herb seemingly contradicted the school's longtime compliance officer. Someone needs to step up and take charge.

Way too much drama going on for a guy that has failed 3 or 4 drug tests, melts down on twitter daily, and talks shite after every play.
He can do his growing up somewhere else

Despite his dismissal - Mathieu did his part on the field the past few seasons and brought a lot of positive attention to LSU through his production and persona.
I don't think LSU wants to deny him the opportunity to continue his work towards getting his degree since had he not been an athlete - this wouldn't be an issue. He's done more than enough to get his remaining credits paid for IMO.
I'm a TCU grad and I know there are very few athletes that leave early to pursue their careers in sports (mostly baseball players, and a few "hardship" types for football). I know that if they've represented the university well - TCU does what it can to ensure the individual can continue towards earning their degree there.
Most recent example being RB Ed Wesley who declared for the supplemental draft after spring, didn't get picked, but signed as a UDFA with the Cowboys He had to quit school so he could work (even if that meant regular, non-football employment) to provide for his mother who suffers from severe, debilitating rheumatoid arthritis. He's about 3 semesters shy of his degree right now and it's paid for if he doesn't make it in the pros.
Just like I'm pretty sure LSU has figured out a way to cover D Byrd's current enrollment in some form or fashion.
ETA:
As far as him being a student at LSU for a year and facing basically a "one year suspension" and returning for one year after that... It may depend on an NCAA and not a University ruling. IDK.
