I have bought some weapons and shields in the machines too. But yes, that is the main reason

Oasis was pretty tough. I went in as a 40 (actually just hit it) and the enemies were all 38-42. Broke is a 44 so I asked him to jump in and the enemies seemed to stay at my level and not increase to his so that helped a lot.
