Does Chief move to a more traditional 4-3 defense now?

What are your opinions? If not, who on the roster can fill that Mathieu/Brooks role?

No...
Nothing changes. Look for Eugene/Martin/Mills/Thomas to fill it.

Chavis said at media day this week that he would run more Dime, more base and less Nickel.
Tahj Jones in base. Eugene, Jones, Martin & Mills in Dime. The Freshman DB's were going to play. Now they're gonna play some more.
The great thing about this is when you take the long view. Rashard Robinson, Tre'Davious White, and Rickey Jefferswag are DBUv3.0. They are without question the most talented group of DB's we've signed in a single class.
With kids like Mills and Thomas seeing the field this year, we will have a TON of experience in 2013 returning and it will be very, very young experience.
Those three kids I mentioned earlier will more than likely be able to redshirt. IMO that's at least two of those three. The most talented will see the field.
But that will give us three-four juniors with a shite-ton of experience in 2014 with two redshirted Frosh and a true Soph who will be ready to take the reigns and stock the LSU secondary with talent for years afterward.
This year will be rough but the future is unbelievably bright for that unit going forward.
