Yep. In 2009, Wisconsin did somtheing similar with unheralded true freshman Chris Borland. The Wisconsin Badger's 2009 stat line looked eerily similar to Mathieu's from 2010.
Borland - 54 tackles, 10.5 tfls, 5 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, 1 int
Mathieu - 57 tackles, 8.5 tfls, 4.5 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, 2 ints
Mathieu was an ideal candidate for the position with his instincts, aggressiveness, and penchant for finding the ball. But Chavis put him in a very unique position to be a playmaker.
