We will be ok. Chavis has a system that wrecks havoc and breeds playmakers

I keep thinking about what he means to the team. Fearless, over the top confidence and swag. He had guts and rare playmaking ability. I saw a interview with Eddie kenison not to long ago (Eddie Eddie Eddie
), he basically said you have to be a little crazy to be a punt returner and this is where it stings. 1 hopper, 2 hopper in your face, didn't matter. Much like PP7 he was fearless in that regard (although Obj will be a fantastic returner).
The thing is, as a nickle back, he was somewhat a product of chavis' system. We have many similar body types recruited on the team for that reason. Tm7 made lsu last season as much as lsu made tyran. Tyrans natural position is FS for that reason. I would not be surprised at all to see a FS converted for nickle and dime packages. Honestly, he was not an elite cover corner (although I was anxious to see his progress), I think he was just allowed to roam and would be the case for whoever could fill that role. I remember brooks having a monster game in Tyrans absence. Why? Because chavis put him in position to do so. Blitzing off the edge and covering slots will be handled. I promise you, his special teams contributions are more important (weather it be gunner or PR). But make no mistake, the staff has learned alot from tyran as much as tyran learned from the coaches. His spirit will live on. Obj on returns, Landry on coverage and one of our very talented DB's will take care of the nickle set. It's seams very natural for alot of guys with speed to do so.
He will be missed, but last year, I thought brooks was at least equal to tyran. I am not taking away anything from him, but I think he is replaceable (by committee) without much of a drop off. As a bonus we might have a better pass defense.

I SIAP, we may just have another "TM" waiting to play right now, who has already practiced and everything.
Remember, he was a true freshman when he started playing.
I know, I know but not all true freshman play. True, however, he did, Patrick Peterson did, Micah Eugene?
I agree with you, Dreaux.

TM made the spectacular play but LSU will be fine. There is plenty of talent to step up and I don't think the loss of this player will hurt LSU nearly as bad as some are projecting. It may cost them some attention, but no losses.

Exactly, Ron Brooks just stepped right in last year. So there is a drop off but not near as big as some make it out to be.

Dont go full retard. Mathieu changed the momentum of a couple games.....Oregon opening strip fumble and touchdown, west virginia interception before half, punt return against arkansas, and punt returns against georgia

The term is "wreaks havoc"
Please correct it.

Yep. In 2009, Wisconsin did somtheing similar with unheralded true freshman Chris Borland. The Wisconsin Badger's 2009 stat line looked eerily similar to Mathieu's from 2010.
Borland - 54 tackles, 10.5 tfls, 5 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, 1 int
Mathieu - 57 tackles, 8.5 tfls, 4.5 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, 2 ints
Mathieu was an ideal candidate for the position with his instincts, aggressiveness, and penchant for finding the ball. But Chavis put him in a very unique position to be a playmaker.

I would think having lockdown corners would be the key. Maybe that's why Chavis said we would play more base 4-3 this year.

Well said
Tyrann was explosive because he realized the power of his conviction. Call it swagger, or whatever, the truth is he played with conviction and great timing. Amazing what the mind is capable of. None of us can doubt that he has raised this awareness in his teammates. We saw it when Brooks played in his place last year and we will see it from someone else this year. I'll miss watching him wreak havoc, but I'm grateful for what he brought to us, to LSU, and to football.
He has shown the way, and we're better for it.![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Icongeauxtigers.png)
