I disagree. Id say that most kids leaving 5th grade in a private school are probably better at reading/writing/basic math than more than half of students in grades 6-12 in a bad public school.

Really depends on the school or district. If his only option is a ghetto public school vs private school then the decision is easy. On average I would say the public school teachers are just as good if not better (higher pay) If the public school has a gifted program then the education level would be higher than most private schools. 20k a year has to factor in.

And I agree that average test scores for a private school kid in 5th would be higher than a 7th-8th grader in public school. But that is because a good amount of the kids have idiot parents who don't stress education to their children.
