Hosmer tore it up last year after being called up in May. Had 19 HRs, 78 RBIs, and an .800 OPS in 128 games. This year, his numbers are down across the board, but his walks are up a little bit and he isn't striking out too much.

Rizzo was atrocious in 49 games after being called up by San Diego last year, but has nine HRs and a .847 OPS in 35 games since being called up a few weeks ago.

Both showed signs of becoming big-time sluggers in the minors. Who has a better long-term outlook?

I think they are about even.

I know that is not an entertaining answer, but i think both are cant miss guys.

Hosmer in year 3 could be slightly better

I'd go with Hosmer.

I think Hosmer's peak would be a Joey Votto type hitter, just great all around. Rizzo's peak is more of a Mark Teixeira, great power but not a great average.

Both have a long way to go. I wouldnt be urprised if either became an MVP candidate or became a bust. Really disappointed in Hosmer this season.

I dont think either will bust. Very rarely does a player get to the MLB at their ages and bust out.

I should have said not many players get to the MLB at that age and have stretches like these 2 have had as 21/22 year olds.

really though, some of those guys dont belong. Either they weren't elite level prospects, or they weren't total busts. Not a very long list considering it has guys that date back 15 years. But yes, there are a few on there that are legit. Id agree

Hosmer long term will be better. Could win batting title. May look a lot like Votto sooner than later. Don't see that with Rizzo.

Hosmer. Better chance at hitting for a higher average while contributing across the board including SB's. He was a top 10 prospect for a reason... no disrespect to Rizzo as he should be a good player in his own right.

Hosmer. I like Rizzo, but Hosmer was the higher rated prospect for a reason, and he has a track record of MLB success. He's going through growing pains, but I'm not too concerned. He's still 22.
