West Monroe wins due to the weight program and system being implemented in 6th grade. By the time the kids reach high school, they know the plays by heart. When you know your role, it's much easier to go out and just play/execute.

This is exactly what Curtis/Evangel does. Having an elementary attached to your high school, or only one feeder school to your high school can have a big time advantage. But, I've seen WM's weight room/locker room/football facilities. They are better than some college programs.

Exactly!

We miss those feeder schools that are now closed and this is why I'm glad we added 6th/7th grades... Oh, and hiring Crutchfield

Not bad for Ouachita Parish.

I did, it made me all tingly inside

Sweet!

Like I said I just couldn't resist given how much angst there has been about him coaching at St Aug over Fournette. I've been on the record for a while saying I think LF winds up at LSU.

With D.Smith and Quinn in your receiving corps, insert any competent QB and it'll be a nightmare for opposing defenses.

I'd love to see Mangham go to the Dome. They had a great year but OCS stomped them in the Semi's. The purple dragons have 9 starters coming back on Defense but the offense is really young.

In the left hand column of an article on West Monroe, Neville and Ouchita Christian starting practice to defend state titles.

quote:

OUACHITA TRANSFER MIA AT WEST MONROE DRILLS
Ouachita transfer Cameron Robinson did not take the West Monroe practice field Monday. Coaches told The News-Star the 6-foot-6, 315-pound offensive lineman would sit out until they were certain of his eligibility.

quote:
LHSAA Executive Director Kenny Henderson said the association has not been asked to investigate the eligibility of any West Monroe football players. "Not officially," Henderson said.

"We have not received any request in writing. In reality, he hasn't officially transferred yet (under LHSAA rules). He may have transferred schools, but we don't consider the student having transferred until they've attended at least one class period ... As far as we're concerned, he's still a student at Ouachita." "” Jerit Roser

News Star

quote:
Fans gathered around fields early Monday morning, parking their cars on the side of the road at two area high schools.

That can mean only one thing — high school football is officially here.

All area LHSAA schools conducted their first official football practice Monday as coaches started evaluating their teams in anticipation for their season openers, most of which occur Aug. 31.

In about three and a half weeks, three certain Ouachita Parish teams will begin their titles defenses also. West Monroe (Class 5A), Neville (Class 4A) and Ouachita Christian (Class 1A) started that quest Monday, though, as they filled holes and prepared for what they hope is another 15-game season.

quote:
Neville cornerback Laurence "Hootie" Jones broke up a John Diarse pass on Monday during a red zone drill, and the offense pleaded with coaches for a pass interference call while the defense cheered Jones' effort.

Jones and Diarse joked with each other on their way to the next drill, and both said they like the offense-defense rivalry.

... then they all went to Johnny's Pizza and lived happily ever after. Isn't that how all Monroe stories end?

Kennon Fontenot is more than just a little competent too. If he wasn't 5-8, he'd be a big-time prospect. Even at his height, he'll get I-AA offers, although he'll probably end up taking an SEC baseball scholarship offer.

They also have a pretty good RB. Not an SEC RB, but probably a state college type kid.

They'll get into some 42-35 games this year. What I see happening is somebody like WM will slow them down just a little and Barbe won't be able to stop them and they'll lose. Calcasieu hasn't had a state champion in football since the early 70s. Just ain't meant to be. I thought Sulphur was better than Acadiana a few years back and Westlake should have beaten Parkview a couple years back. But they both lost.

Something always goes wrong for the Calcasieu teams.

The 6-foot-6, 315-pound junior offensive lineman, whose mother dropped him from Ouachita on Monday, July 23, has still not practiced since enrolling at West Monroe last week, which coach Don Shows said will remain the case until his eligibility is determined.

Someone is full of shite. It's pics like the one of Cam at practice and then articles in todays paper that get people talking.

He did practice this morning. It was the first time he has practiced with the team. Not sure what (if anything) happened to trigger him practicing, but he was definitely out there.

Maybe, if that Sulphur team had an offense.

You do realize when a paper arrives early in the morning it is reporting yesterdays news....it would be pretty impressive for your paper to predict todays news.

Actually I got the story from the website which they update on a regular basis. They have been on this story like stink on shite with 3-4 updates the day it happened. I could be wrong but I find it hard to believe that everything was cleared up between the article deadline and the morning practice. Besides, according to the LHSAA he is still enrolled at Ouachita until he attends a class at WM. According to post on the WM site he can practice all he wants and that he was supposed to start on Wednesday, the day the article was written. There is also rumor of him going to River Oaks for a year and then back to WM. Like I said someone is full of shite.
