The Paterno family is no longer merely insulting. Now it's irrational.
Perhaps the NCAA should reconsider its no-appeal stance. Maybe it's time for the NCAA to speak the only language the Paterno family understands. The family clearly doesn't comprehend compassion, decency or accountability -- so maybe the NCAA should fight crazy with crazy.
Wipe out every single victory in Paterno's career, but what the hell -- keep the losses. The Paterno family wants JoePa to go down as the winningest coach ever? Here's your alternative: History will remember Joe Paterno as the worst coach of all time, an 0-136 loser.
On top of that, how about a lifetime show-cause penalty for Jay Paterno? Don't let him coach college football ever again. Part of me thinks Jay Paterno won't coach again anyway, because who would hire such a dislikeable cretin? But the coaching community is a closed circle, and Jay was born on the inside. Someone would hire him, but not if he has a lifetime show-cause ruling that would force any potential employer to sit before the NCAA and explain itself.

If Scott cut his fricking head off, he would be 50 pound lighter.

I hear Gregg Doyel trains at a boxing gym for exercise. Well I used to box a little myself, and there is nothing more that I would enjoy in this world than three rounds in a boxing ring with that guy.
Actually, I would enjoy four rounds even more. Or five rounds. Or six. Basically, I would enjoy pummeling the shite out of Gregg Doyel for as long as possible.
Every time I see that guy's face, all I can think about is how much I want to punch it.

Even on the rare instances when I agree with him, I still want to punch him in his face multiple times.

Jerry Sandusky seems to be less delusional than Jay Paterno

Doyel speaks the truth this time

Yeah I'm surprised there hasn't been a thread about the paterno's request yet. They just need to shut up. They're making things worse.

They're making things worse.
It just drives home the point that all they care about is Joepa's legacy,to hell with the victims

The world will be a better place when Scott, Jay, and Mrs Paterno suffer the same fate as Joe. Actually, that's too easy for them. Scott and Jay's careers are probably ruined. That is a good thing.

Scott had a career?

That's justice, but so is this: Now the world knows that lovable ol' JoePa wasn't the only cold-blooded Paterno. Turns out it runs in the family.

I can kind of feel bad for Mrs. Paterno. She's looked frail for several years, probably has no idea what year it is let alone why so many people are upset with her husband.
The sons, on the other hand, look like a couple of low-life punks who were determined to coast on their daddy's name for the rest of their lives. frick 'em.

Well he's a lawyer of some sort. I'm sure no one wants to associate with him now.

The paterno family is part of the cult

He went to law school, and may have even passed he bar. However, I get the impression he pretty much just mooched off of Joe.

That's what everyone said about Joe.

"The NCAA and Penn State's leadership, by accepting and adopting the conclusions of the Freeh report, have maligned all of the above without soliciting contrary opinions or challenging a single finding of the Freeh report. Given the extraordinary penalty handed out, prudence and justice require that scrupulous adherence to due process be observed and not completely ignored."
Not only is there nothing wrong with this...it should be followed in any case...let alone a case of this magnitude.
But everyone just wants it swiftly dealt with because extraordinary circumstances involving sensitive and deeply emotional crimes need not be thorough - just swift.
It looks bad that it's the Paterno family doing this but they shouldn't have had to...we have yet to hear in court from the two people indicted - and yet the NCAA decision becomes final. A decision which is precisely hinged upon what those indicted (and Paterno) did or did not do - not what Sandusky did or what was revealed in his trial.
The NCAA should at least await testified facts and not merely a report by one group without testimony or sworn statements upon which a judgment call was made by one person.
