3 songs you've likely never heard before, but should take the time to hear.

It's amazing to see how the art of finding new and relevant music has changed over the years. Today, there is more music available in more ways than ever before. There are more opportunities for music which can still be called art to reach the public.

This increases the likelihood that others are listening to music you might not ever hear if someone didn't tell you about it. So, I'm going to share some of those artists which I am listening to with you.

Imagine Dragons - Radioactive

Electric Guest - The Bait

Mansions On The Moon - She Makes Me Feel

I've shown you mine... now you show me yours.

I was about to lose all faith in this board. I'm still pretty close though.

I will probably pick up the new Hot Water Music album. I like what they're doing, and I hadn't heard of them before today.

Been a long time Clutch fan though, and as far as Zakk Wylde is concerned I enjoy his early stuff much better. Check this out. LINK

I agree with you on Zakk Wylde that Pride and Glory cd is one of my favorites. I don't really like his new music.

Cloud Cult - Brain Gateway
One of my favorite bands. The music is great and the lyrics are very profound and honest. They can get somewhat cheesy sometimes, but it grew on me for sure.

Drexel - Track 02
Drexel was a hardcore punk rock band from Boston. They made a few albums, but never really got that popular, surprisingly. Their last two albums, The Inevitable is Available and What Went Wrong are outstanding. I think you can find some of their stuff on Grooveshark.

BLK JKS - Taxidermy
BLK JKS are a progressive rock band out of Africa.

I used to work at Dark Horse Recording Studio in Franklin, TN. The owner Robin Crow did an entire album with Jon Anderson, but it's never been released. Apparently JA finally relented and allowed one song to be released on Robin's album.

Here is the link. LINK The JA collaboration starts about 4:40. Phil Keaggy is also on that track. Enjoy.

ETA: I really wish he'd release the rest of it. It's really good.

islands- rough gem
pretty much a perfect pop song

the eames era- could be anything
this one may be more well-known around here since it is former LSU students

the halo benders- virginia reel around the fountain
side project collaboration between Doug Martsch (Built to Spill) and Calvin Johnson (Beat Happening, Detroit Lions)

the whiskers- ornithopters
for fans of wolf parade, sunset rubdown, frog eyes or other maniac bands of that sort.

i realize i did four, but i couldn't decide which one to cut

I know, I've got a bunch more.

Islands reminds me of The Helio Sequence

I had no idea the eames era were former LSU students.

I liked the halo benders, kind of reminded me of silversun pickups. idk what the spoken word part was though.

Of them all I liked the whiskers the most. Glad you didn't cut this one.

Caustic Resin - Wizard Of The Upper Snake River

The Mekons - Where Were You?

Mark Lanegan Band - Harborview Hospital

Grinderman - Palaces Of Montezuma

Mrs. Magician - Nightlife

All of these are somewhat off the beaten path but are also definitely worth a listen. I'm loving the Grinderman, Mark Lanegan (which is new) and Mrs. Magician especially.

Great stuff if you haven't heard it and also a nice variety of different types of tunes.

Crank em up.

Why? The tastes are not obscure enough for you?

Because, outside of the Phish marathon the only things that seem to gain any traction around here are topics on rap music and which _______ is better/best.

It's just not very stimulating conversation. BTW, this thread wasn't to espouse "obscure" music, but rather to share music others may not have heard. I haven't heard of many of the bands posted. Some I liked, some I didn't, but at least I had an opportunity to discover something new.
