Duck hunting around Hammond

I will be living in Hammond, and am looking for a place to duck hunt. Does anybody know of a lease with an opening? And if so, around how much $/year?
Or would I be better off hunting public land?

Joyce WMA is just a few miles south of Hammond. Supposed to have some pretty good duck hunting. I've heard it can be difficult to navigate due to the tides. There's also Big Branch Marsh Refuge between Mandeville and Slidell which isn't too far from Hammond.

Have you hunted any of those, or do you duck hunt around Hammond?

No, but I used to hunt some private property adjacent to Joyce on the west side. It was money. There are several local guys who post here who are very knowledgeable on this area.

I'm from the area and the Prairie in Manchac and Joyce WMA are both less than 20 minutes from Hammond. It sucks that you can't crank a motor in the prairie any more but it did limit hunters and the hunting was better.

What's the best way to access the Prairie at Joyce. Can you hike it, or is it too wet?
