Spending hours in a guitar shop is a great idea to helping find what you like.
Being left-handed I find almost no—literally 0 in many cases—left-handed acoustics to check out in a shop. In that situation, I take a right-handed model and see how it feels in my hands. I'll also have a right hander play it so I can get some estimate of its sound.
I've got a guitar tech here in town, one of the best guys in Orlando, who I'm gonna call to get his thoughts. Since I like talking guitars though, I figured I'd get some opinions here. I did the same a few months back when I was looking for a 12-string a/e; I got some interesting feedback on various models. Wound up getting a Seagull Coastline.

I missed where you said you were left handed I guess. That has to be a pain in the arse.
I'm not much of a gear head. I don't even really research instruments before I buy them, I walk into the store and find one that plays well and walk out with it
So I'm not going to be much help in this matter, however like others said. If you want a "true" Martin you better up that price range by about 1500 bucks or so
