Can't go wrong with a Martin, ever, but you know how they are. His Taylor will probably have a better sound than a Martin for 1k. You have to spend 2k+ for that true Martin sound.
My Taylor was about $1200, but in playability and sound it destroyed any Martin I played in that price range. If I had the money for an upper end Martin, I'd definitely get one. One day!
