i remember what campus used to look like prior to 2003 at 6:00 am on a saturday morning

pretty packed, actually. I was in school from 1999-2003, and we set up our tent across the street from the Indian Mounds every home game between 5-6 a.m. There were plenty of people out there and music blaring. I would argue people were more excited about things in 2000 than in 2003.

Yeah, that must be it. Recent polls have LSU as one of the most popular colleges in America.
We have been in the Top Ten in attendance since records were first kept.
We are in the top ten percent of U.S. universities in number of alumni, and we have 100,000+ on campus every Saturday in the fall, and lead the nation in baseball attendance.

So, yeah - strictly bandwagon...
