Stephen A. Smith's issues on LSU offering 8th grader

Stephen A. has always gotten on my nerves and I think he is going a little over board with this LINK TO VIDEO
Its not an issue with me if the NCAA allows it and the kid is attending LSU's camp, but to bring up how out of control programs are and questioning where there focus is ridiculous.
The name of the game is recruiting and we are ahead of it.
Kid is a great talent and loves LSU.
I don't see the issue.
Do you have a problem with it?

They do stuff like this to get ratings...that's what they want..if it stirrs up a fan base then ESPN wins..(see Skip Bayless)

from a guy who was on ESPN saying LeBRAWNN James would be the #1 pick in the draft THIS YEAR when he was a hs underclassmen

did he have a comment when USC offered an out of state kid a few months ago?

It is pretty goofy. But, there is no big issue.
As for the SAS v Skip Bayless "debates", they flipped a coin. SAS came up with 'take a negative position on this issue'

Haters gonna hate. We're going to beat their beauty queen (USC) and they will hate us for it.

Dale Brown started recruiting Shaq when he was 13.
Stephen A needs to STFU.

no issue, they'll make a big deal out of nothing.
fact of the matter is, the earlier that you make the impression on the kid, the better. some may not like that practice, but proof is in the pudding.
talent is talent no matter how old the kid is. it's not like the staff is offering based on some kid's peewee highlights on youtube.

Ask him about this.
This is old news, been going on for a long time. This story is from 2010, who knows if it's happened before--almost certainly has.
ETA: This was a 7th-grader.

Stephen A doesnt know shite about football anyway...skip was the worst athlete at his highschool....there argument is invalid
Posted on 7/26/12 at 2:41 pm to CajunBandit4Life
He is great I'd say 60% of the time but when he's wrong he just won't shut up. I'm not saying he is wrong this time but for him to talk poorly of LSU for offering a 14 year old when it is completely legal is wrong. Talk poorly about the rule that is not in place and remain solely to that argument, don't speak on the the university that did it.
Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Dequan Bowers was offered by Clemson in 8th grade IIRC.

Steven A. is just plum STUPID! Don't know what he talking bout. He tries to say what if these kids want to change their minds in the future....Well doesn't Steven A know that verbals are non binding?Well apparently not. That let's you know right there he knows nothing about nothing concerning hs football and recruiting.
Probably trippin cause his son wasn't offered in the 8th grade.

I'm a fan of neither Stephen A. nor Skip, but this was a pretty good discussion IMO. However, I think Washington would be more in the "wrong" than us for giving a 13-year-old a "committable offer." The offer extended to Moses is definitely not committable yet.

I think offering an 8th grader is not a good idea. What does a 13 year old know about a decision they will make 4 years from now? I have no problem with coaches selling their program at a camp but no need for official offers or recruiting in middle school. Something is creepy about adults falling all over 8th graders.
