Why would Bane/League of Shadows work so hard to Ruin Gotham financially and Then blow it up with a Nuke? doesn't make a lick of sense. if you are going to Nuke an entire city and basically kill everyone, it makes financial ruin kind of a moot point.

In what way did they try and do this?

He did it so that Wayne would be forced out of Wayne Enterprises, and then when that happened, Bruce would lean on Miranda Tate and do what he could to put her in power of the board, and would also give her access to the fusion generator, which they didn't have.

So that way, the League had access to the Generator, which they could now turn into the Bomb that they wanted to destroy the city.

The goal was always to destroy Gotham.

They used increasingly overt strategies as it went on.

The depression engineered by them, which was thwarted by the reaction to the Wayne murders was just the first attempt to get the citizens to destroy it by tearing each other apart.

The attempt with the hulliciagen in the water was the second attempt to the same end.

Nuking it was just the final plan.

It's the only way to be sure after all.

Financial ruin was the first tactic used. In Ra's own words, they underestimated people like Bruce's parents so it didn't work. Then they tried other methods, using Crane and the hallucinogen in the water with the microwave emitter. Thwarted by Batman, they regroup, with Ra's dead, Talia can use Bane to finish the final plan of nuking the city.

People answered about Batmin Begins, but I think you are just referring to TDKR. The whole point of dragging out the destruction of Gotham in this movie was to punish Bruce Wayne for killing Ras.

Because the first time they attacked Gotham (which caused the depression that led to the murder of Bruce's parents) it was rich people like the Wayne's who were able to keep Gotham afloat long enough for the effects of the depression to finally subside. And then, when they attacked Gotham once more, it was a rich man named Bruce Wayne (in the guise of Batman) who stopped them from destroying the city a second time. Obviously the League of Shadows had learned from their mistakes. They demonize the rich, defeat and imprison Batman, and nothing else stands in their way of destroying Gotham.
