Alfred was practically a father to Bruce - I doubt he would run away to Florence with a girl he's known for a few months without even attempting to contact Alfred.

So him doing the same, fantazizing routine that he said he did while Bruce was MIA (and specifically during that time) was mere coincidence?
Granted though, you are right, we don't know if that was his first clue. Although it was fly in the face of what was given to us on screen.
Doesn't change that there wasnt a Wayne fortune to share, which wasn't vague.
And the father figure angle was why he allowed him to be seen at all.
