Didn't the film hint that the fund was running dry prior to this scene? Wayne Enterprises spent a significant amount on that energy project, which ultimately fell through and was shut down.

Eh, wouldn't say running dry.

It was personal wealth they attacked, and it was Wayne Enterprises that funded the Foundation earlier...remember the two are separate.

He was shocked at the cash flow problem, and was still hosting lavish parties.

While things may not have been financially heady, he wasn't dry yet.

Point still stands, you would think any rapid stock shift associated with the breakin would be scrutinized.

And I know about the injuries...but he flipped it off and on like a switch.

One second he needs the cane, the next he leaps over a window sill light as a feather.

The work out in the pit being rehab makes sense...but before that? And what was the leg thing? It seemed to be some kind of bionic attachment/aid (which would explain a lot), but it's never explained.

Well, he likely had OA in most of his joints, but he seemed to have a bum knee, hence the cane. When he decides to get back into things, he becomes a little more pro active about his care, and goes for the mechanical knee brace. No more pain, no more limp.

And such injuries are usually due to inflammation - it's not like he had a torn ACL or anything. Inflammatory injuries typically subside over time with proper care.

I think that the cane was more a literal representation of how he felt emotionally. He was broken from Rachel's death and his no longer being Batman that he used the cane because he just felt he needed it, and it was the only way he could get around because in his mind he was broken/crippled.
