I love the new Craig movies but I've tried watching the bond movies on encore and here is my (sometimes poor) opinion

Connery - I love every one of these movies and they really are some of the best in the series

Moore - the opposite. I fricking hate every one of these. Loved them as a child but now they are almost unwatchable as an adult. I feel like this is where the franchise really started going downhill.

Dalton - honestly, never seen them

Brosnan - here is where I felt like the bond franchise showed promise again. I loved goldeneye and tomorrow never dies was good for me though I know alot of people hate this one. The world is not enough - I really never liked this one but nowhere near as bad as Die Another Day- gross. Not one good quality about this film. I actually had to turn this one off when it came out on DVD, and that was nine years ago. I doubt I would be able to stomach 30 minutes of this one today. I think it is single handedly responsible for the much needed reboot of a nearly 50 year old franchise, so in some way I'm glad they made it

Brosnan
Here. Not with the actor, but the way they changed his character into an action hero.

Dalton
The Living Daylights was good.

I don't get the Moore hate. For Your Eyes Only, The Spy Who Loved Me, and Man With the Golden Gun are good movies. They weren't all masterpieces but neither was Thunderball.

Bond went wrong when the producers started turning Bond into a superhero with repeated storylines. They followed the same Bond formula for years and after a while it just got stale. Instead of improving the storylines, they simply ramped up the gadgets and stunts. In the end, Bond under Brosnan became a caricature of himself and the movies just one big cliche.

Bond's always been... Bond.

They'll produce a few great films, and a few shitty ones. It's a cycle, I guess you could say.

August 12, 1964, Canterbury
Ian Fleming, Died

I've honestly never really liked a single Bond movie that wasn't based off of a Fleming Novel.

Mostly the Brosnan and now Craig movies. Especially Craig...he's a better Bond than Brosnan and could be great...but they've turned him and his movies into Jason Bourne. Yawn.

There's nothing special about Bond anymore. Just rewatch the old Connery ones. We'll always have those.

If everybody disses the Moore Bond movies then I don't really see how the franchise has gone wrong. Sounds like it's gotten better. This coming from a non-bond fan. I've never seen a single bond movie before the Brosnan ones and of the one's I have seen, I don't really like how they are just simple action movies IMO. Like somebody else said, it's like watching a bad Jason Bourne Movie. Sounds like I might like the old ones more.

It became a farce of itself while other movies got more serious.

I am the only one in america who probably dislikes the craig bond, not ordering a martini shaken not stirred is a travesty!
Also the gadgets are what made bond and not displaying them in the new movies sucks. I agree that they had gotten kinda stupid on the tail end of the Brosnan bond, but you could dial it back and still keep them.
I like Bronsan, He was a take no prisnors bond and I liked that,
COnney was a balance of everything.
More was good as bond, and I don't get all the hate.
Dalton was so short didn't get his own style but he was ok.
If I am ranking:
Connery
Brosnan
Then take your pick of Dalton, Moore, and Craig.

I like them all pretty much. I've seen every movie, most more than once.

Some of Dalton's and Moore's weren't great. I liked all of Brosnan's except Die Another Day.

After the one frick up with George Lazenby, Moore looked damned good. Wasn't real crazy about Connery as a young JB. Dalton was ok and I actually liked Brosnan and Craig. The problem is that the writers have Bond answering to a female who wants to be his fricking mother. M strives to keep JB on a short leash - aka gripping one testicle.
