The events of Battle of Gods takes place several years after the battle with Majin Buu, which determined the fate of the entire universe. Wiss and Bills, the God of Destruction, are tasked with maintaining some sort of balance in the universe. After awakening from a long slumber, Bills is visited by Wiss and he learns that several years ago, the galactic overlord Freeza has been defeated by a Super Saiyan from the North Quadrant of the universe named Goku, who is also a former student of the North Kaio. Thirty nine years ago, when infant Goku was found in the woods by Grandpa Gohan, the Oracle Fish told Bills by its prophetic powers that a strong opponent would appear before him, the Super Saiyan God. [4] Now, Bills tracks down this warrior, Goku on Kaio-sama's planet with his ally, the mysterious Wiss. Goku challenges Bills, ecstatic over the new challenge, he ignores Kaio-sama's advice and battles Bills, but is overwhelmed and defeated. Bills then leaves, but his eerie remark of "Is there nobody on Earth more worthy to destroy?" lingers on. [5]

Seeking stronger warriors, Bills arrives on Earth. The heroes and their friends are at Capsule Corporation, where Bulma's birthday party is held. [6] Bills faces and easily defeats them one after another ? Kuririn, Gohan, Piccolo and Vegeta, whom seems to have met Bills before. [7] Later, Goku confronts Bills again and they have a battle in space, right above planet Earth.
