synthetic is supposed to be more stable (no warping or swelling from moisture or heat)...but all of my guns have wood and I have never had that problem with any of them either...so pick what you like the best...

i got the wood because i think it looks better... they say synthetic lasts longer, that's personal choice
you can add a scope easily to the marlin 60, the only downfall is its tube-fed, which does take a little longer to reload but if your worth your salt you'll hit the target
