So, no, I wouldn't say the two situations are all that similar.

I agree. And despite comments earlier made in my depression after the Bayern loss, missing the CL won't be the death blow it was to 'Pool. If Arsenal is a bell curve, this season should be the bottoming out point. No reason for us not to be improved next season, even without spending big. Losing CL money hurts our chances of being closer to ManU, but we'd still be in the CL hunt next year.

Also, I don't understand the criticism of Ramsey today. Pressed well. Passed well. He and Arteta really shut down Bale and their midfield going forward. Created our only goal by winning a free kick with a really nice bit of skill 1v3. Had our best chance blocked by a very good BAE recovery. Thought he, Jenkinson, and Arteta were our brightest spots today.

Every.Single.Attack where he got the ball in a somewhat dangerous position ended with him passing back to Arteta or a CB or losing possession rather than even attempting a nice pass in, I saw several times where Theo was making a decent run and could have had a chance with a well timed pass...

I think it's a confidence issue frankly. He doesn't want to be responsible for giving the ball away so he recycles possession or tries to dribble around until a wide open teammate appears.

Hard to say how Arsenal would recover, but it really didn't hurt LFC that much. What hurt Liverpool was the period after we didn't qualify, when we needed to reinforce the squad, and, instead, fired our manager, hired Hodgson, bought Konchesky and fricking Poulson, almost went into administration, fell to the relegation zone, fired Hodgson, hired Kenny and bought Carroll.

Losing Xabi, Arbeloa, Masch, Torres, Benayoun and Hyypia hurt, but I think we could have survived it had Rafa been given backing to rebuild the squad. Instead, we fired him, which is one of the worst things to do in that situation.
