While I'm not going to pretend the Confederations Cup is a major international tournament, it was a very impressive win.

That's great and all, but that doesn't change the fact that the previous statement was wrong.
It was a knockout game in a major tournament, even if the tournament is under the other 2 in importance the statement said knockout games since 06. Spain & the US both had their A team. All there is to it, pretty simple.
