I hit my 7 iron from many different distances, depending on the lie, wind, distance, etc..

still a whole lot more thinking than when I am running down a shot in tennis

True, that is more reactionary. I guess I'm just thinking about between points, planning strategy, etc. and when serving. I'm sure to the casual observer the serve looks pretty easy, but when you're tight, exhausted and having to toss that ball with your off hand, it can be pretty tricky.
