How do they communicate with players in these international matches?

Most of them are multilingual.

Figured the multilingual angle. Wonder if it's a prerequisite to being a ref on that level. Would make sense.

Many players are multilingual too. Hell even Michael Bradley knows dutch and italian I guess German too since he played there for a bit.

That was one of the problems with Coulibaly, the ref in the USA-Slovenia World Cup game. He couldn't communicate with our players to explain why he called back the goal.

Not trying to come across as a patriotic moron here.. But English is the international language.. They should all be required to speak this, and probably Spanish as well.

Both. For the most part, all major European nations will speak English or Spanish in some form.
