With a selection committee put in charge of selecting the final 4 teams so to speak. Will rankings play a roll in this? or say if the final standings in the AP or ESPN look like this:

1. LSU
2. USC
3. Alabama
4. VT
5. Oregon
6. OU

Could the final 4 be say LSU, USC, Alabama and OU?
can the committee over rule the rankings.? I guess they could which would make rankings meaningless

The AP will likely still award their NC trophy.

Presumably, the AP poll will just be another factor that the godfrsaken committee can consider during its nebulous process.

there are a few groups such AP, writers

who award a trophy.

aside from that gesture, the committee is free to pick the 4 best, regardless of any poll.

the semis will reflect the poll of the committee.

Not entirely. It would still be relevant that you finished in the top ten, or beat four ranked opponents, or whatever. The only reason it doesn't matter in basketball and baseball is that there are so many teams in the playoff. If there were only four, people would care more about the rankings of teams that missed the playoff.

The current polls will just be something else for fans to cry about. The committee cannot vote along poll lines because if they do, then what's the point?

Regarding playoff, yes, both will, for the same reason. The selection committee will be influenced by several factors. The sportswriters opinions and whoever the #1 Sports TV outlet touts will be two of those factors, imo....even if unofficially.

This committee is going to be the worst thing to happen to college football.

Committee should help, Last year was a perfect example. The BCS had LSU, Ala, Ok.St. and Stanford as its top 4. A selection committee would overrule Stanford in put Oregon in the top 4 playoff. Oregon was punished in the polls because of an early loss to LSU and Oregon won its conference. Conference champ and strength of schedule would put Oregon in. That’s where you need a selection committee. Are there going to be problems, for sure, but in most cases in will help eliminate some of the anomalies with the polls.

By the same token, will the Harris Poll even be published any more? Will the BCS Poll, actually an amalgamated poll, still be compiled?

need to think this through, the worst thing to happen was when they formed the bowls 60 years ago, and college football has been wandering in the wilderness those many years just to get here

and, there may be situation in the near future when LSU gets a chance to slip in that final 4 because of strength of schedule

They will be as relevant as College Basketball and College Baseball Polls. LSU was the number 1 team in the Polls and they were the 7th seed in the NCAA tourn.

number one, you can’t cross pollinate the two sports using polls. do i need say anymore? like, the baseball team? the number one team that put Stony Brook on the map?

Who gives a crap. The AP has never had in the history of the universe the authority to award a national champion. I had and you had just as much authority to award team X national champions.

The AP is not part of the NCAA, they were never given authority to pick a champion and the coaches and teams never agree to be bound by their award. Therefore everyone of their supposed national championships that they have ever awarded are not official ncaa champions.
