If this were pretty much any other team, I'd fully agree with you. But because it's a "Cinderella," then I think it's much less insulting, if at all, to anyone with ties to LSU.

That was at the beginning and continues to be a simply foolish argument.

Only problem I have with it, is half our fans did it for all the wrong reasons. And that was the "look at me" fans.

When you can't compete with Chris G. , then you have to find a way for people to look at you.

Lester's post:

quote:

It doesn't really bother me, but I will call out the sincerity of it all.

It's like a dog that realizes if he sits, if he gives his paw, if he rolls on his back, he'll get a treat from his owner. Does he want to do all this stupid bullshite? does he enjoy it? No. He just wants the satisfaction of getting his treat.

the LSU fans are the same way. At some point in time, LSU fans cheered a great play made by the opposing team, and it evolved to them cheering for scrappy teams(usually resulting in a loss) after a tough game or series at the box. To LSU fans now encouraging opposing teams to take a victory lap, a tradition that once seemed unique to LSU. Something OUR players looked forward too after winning a regional or super regional. Something that was LSU tradition.

Now where does the dog treat come in? Well, caught up somewhere in all this. LSU fans got recognition for this, usually through the media, sometimes through the opposing team's comments. "Oh, these LSU fans, they are some classy. They are something else! What a great fan base!!"

Now every time the opportunity is presented, they don't hesitate to do something "classy", because they know they will get the ole "Aw shucks, these guys are so classy!". They feed off the gratification. Which is unwarranted, considering these are the same group of fans that are notorious around the SEC for being totally opposite.

Stony Brook deserved some claps after their effort, maybe even a standing ovation if you want to push the envelope. But sticking around for a victory lap? Sportsmanship is one thing, but at this point you are shitting on tradition and homefield advantage, and you are shitting on the competitiveness & effort of our own team.

Do i really care if they do it? not really. Do i call people out that smile in my face but talk behind my back? yea, usually.

You got that same "what the heck?" look I used to give fans who booed Jamarcus Russell. I'd literally turn and ask them. Bet they missed that type qb play the last few years. Some people's kids. Man.

i get what you're saying.. but then again, i don't... YOU don't know how those people feel and the reasons for acting that way... i've been at the box watching baseball games, i've clapped for awesome plays by opposing teams, i've been at super regionals applauding other teams' effort (win OR lose)... not once have i done that to be able to pat myself on my back.. i honestly DGAF what people think about me or our fanbase, which is why when it comes to football, i usually give opposing fans HELL.. now, that don't mean i won't feed them or share a brew with them, but to me, baseball is a different sport with a different mentality than football, so for you (or anyone else) to stand on your high horse and say that LSU fans do this to be able to pat themselves on the back is dead wrong..

this is the most retarded analogy i've heard on this site.. they have nothing in common

quote:

and if the fans didn't stay, you'd probably be the first ones to run here and post that LSU baseball fans are shitty because they barely stayed past the end of the game...

quote:

you are shitting on tradition and homefield advantage

shitting on it so much that opposing coaches have to take strategic trips to the mound to slow down our offensive momentum when the crowd really gets into it

quote:

Do i really care if they do it? not really

i can tell

It's no use trying to explain this to know it all pricks who just can not see how people would do something nice without having selfish motives. They can't comprehend...because they are arrogant, self-absorbed, assholes.

Katz, Raph, & Nola all 3 said that they thought it was typical of the class of LSU baseball fans. If the players who left it all on the field can take this approach, that is enough for me. As for Mr. Earl's commments, which seem so highly thought of here, I wonder exactly how many of the 100-200 kids that made up the crowd giving the high fives he knows at all, let alone well enough to know how they think. It's anyone's right to have their own opinion, but when that opinion is based on claiming to know how someone else thinks, whether he actually knows them or not, that person is better off speaking only for himself & not making generalizations bout others. A few comments bout a great pro LSU article & pages & pages of "my dick is bigger than yours". Sad commentary on what is important to too many here.

yes we are seriously comparing them. The use of hyperbole don't escape you does it. Let me make it simpler. Did you give Alabama a standing ovation on 1/9 (assuming you aren't too broke to go to the game)? Did you dap up Farmar and Afflalo after they thoroughly kicked our arse out of the Final 4?

There is a difference between baseball and every other sport. There is still a purity about it.
It is not about the best athletes, but those performing at the highest level together.
I played for a Class A school and we beat 5A schools in baseball. Couldn't do that in football or basketball unless you recruit - John Curtis, Evangel, etc.

This is assuming EVERY fan ran to a message board or a newspaper hoping they will read about their greatness as fans. Just plain stupid to judge/lump everybody like that. STUPID.

As for Zealot....what a badass
