Wheeler is a baller but he's not 6'. That's why he wasn't highly recruited. Ricky Wyatt will be the best player in the game by far...watch. Kid is a monster and wasn't taken due to height. ULM and Tech SEVERELY fricked up by not taking him.

My little brother plays football at Sterling which is in Baytown, Tx and they had practice this morning and he said the allstars for La and Tx were out there practicing.

Wait... He wasn't recruited?

Nope...signed with Central Arkansas because he's 5'11".

You are right about ULM, Tech, ULL and others not offering Wyatt. He was a force on that state championship defense and that defense is what got them the Ship. Ask Breaux Bridge.
I remember reading about him & Wheeler maybe both going to play for Coach Conque. They ended the attached article with them joking about practicing together.
quote:
"We've mainly been competing at practice, but he's played some offense too," Wheeler said, gearing up for what would become an ongoing joke as Wyatt yelled in the background. "He's playing some tight end, but when I see him open, I still see that (Neville) black and gold in my head, so I decided to run."
"Quentin's gettin' on my nerves, man," Wyatt joked. "Quentin didn't wanna throw me the ball, but no, I like what I'm seein'. We've got big players on defense who flow to the ball, and we've got good speed at running back and receiver, smart quarterbacks and a big offensive line ... We've just gotta grind it out and get those bragging rights for the state."
Was cool to read Taylor Stokes got an academic Scholly. He will fit in with all of the Neville folks already there.

Lakeshore quarterback Al Damion Riles is participating too.
quote:
Riles, who signed a letter of intent to attend the University of Louisiana in Lafayette and will be a cornerback for the Ragin Cajuns, was an important part of Lakeshore’s 2011 success. The Titans tallied a 5-6 record after an 0-4 start and made the playoffs in their initial year of postseason eligibility. They finished District 7-4A in a three-way tie with Salmen and Franklinton for the top spot with a 3-1 record. LHS entered the postseason as the No. 31 seed before losing to second ranked St. Thomas More 63-21. The Cougars made it to the quarters before falling to seventh seeded Edna Karr 35-31.

They're down 23-13 with under 10 minutes in the game. Devon Breaux just caught about a 50 yeard pas from Wheeler for a first down . After a couple more plays it's 1st and 10 inside the five.

Wheeler takes it in himself and with the missed PAT it's now 23-20 with 7:42 in the fourth.

Rules are there's no overtime in the Bayou Bowl. Final score is 23-23.
Quintin Wheeler is the LA MVP.
Marquise Johnson is the TX MVP.

What is interesting is that Wheeler will be battling with fellow incoming fresh Liggins for a QB spot at MGCC

... I predict a tie ball game ...

Did Riles do anything?
I didn't get in to watch it until the second half. Louisiana was behind and throwing or running QB draws nearly every play. He was playing running back so he could have caught a pass out of the backfield. I don't remember hearing his name.
Didn't see stats from it anywhere.
