PM changed his approach to the game when they changed the bat. He now focuses on small ball more then ever and that's where you lose a lot of the talent. He wants good defenders Nola/Hanover/Ross knowning they will struggle at the plate to hit .300

Heck Arby Fields would have gotten to a couple of balls in the Super Regionals that fell as base hits.

If he changed his approach, why did Grewe (and by extension, Mainieri) go out and recruit a bunch of slow guys that project (although apparently have not developed) as power hitters in college? Please identify the small ball aspects of our offensive philosophy, approach and talent.

Hanover and Nola were recruited and with the program before any of those bat changes ever existed. And your third example, Ross, is one of the few guys you can legitimately point to and say he improved at the plate this year. Not helping your argument.

That must be why we had such great defenders in the outfield.

Was the bat changes so drastic that he figured the ball would never be hit into the outfield?

What are you trying to say? All came before the bat change and both Hanover and Nola were starters before bat change.

nola and hanover were here before the bats changed and Ross will not struggle to hit .300

I get what your saying but those are bad examples.

I dont neccesarily agree though, if you think PM is passing on bigger better hitters to sign smaller guys that dont hit as well, that's pretty crazy. We just signed Gallo, who as beleived to be the most powerfull HS bat in the nation and Alex Bregman who set the new mexico record for HRs in a season at 17, as a JR in HS.

We just haven't recruited good enough and haven't developed hitters good enough, IMO.
