I've seen those before around here. I believe they were ~$200 or so. A buddy has one and it's just a metal insert. Says it holds ice just ok and it's smaller than the one I made.

Ice chest, 5 2x2s, 2 1x4s, box of 3 1/2" screws, box of 2 1/2" screws, 3 handles, 4 caster wheels, PVC fittings, drain valve. Came to around $125ish. I also added a cast iron bottle opener to it that was like $10. None of this is figuring in the old cypress wood.

Yea, I bumped an old thread. Built another one of these as a Christmas gift. I learned a few things when I built the first one so this one came out a little nicer. I used some boards off an old fence for this one.

For sure, the rough first one, not this new Christmas one.
My family still brands cattle, so as you can imagine we've branded all kinds of stuff. Boots, saddles, and yes... wood fence signs. I made a 6 foot 2x14 with address, phone number, and branded it on both ends. It's tight... and the ice chest would look good too with a brand of whatever.

I would screw it up. If house appropriations gets this approved, I'll contact you. Head of that committee will insist on "pretty" vs. rustic though

Sweet, I could probably come up with something. I've seriously considered building about 4-5 of them and going to the huge flea market near Lafayette one weekend. Problem is I really don't want to be amung all those oddballs that frequent that place.

Did you redo the drain to a bottom drain on the new one or is it on the other side?
Where did the ironwork come from? The rustic handles add a nice touch.

For the drain I screwed on a 3/4" pvc threaded coupler, then a 1.5" piece of pvc pipe, then another 3/4" threaded coupler then just a regular 3/4 water hose faucet. Drains just fine. You can see where the spout comes out on one of the pics on page 1.
The ironwork was just some crap I picked up at Hobby Lobby or Kirklands I think. I believe it was like $10-15. I had to trim it down some. It was orginally about 6" too wide on each side and about 3" too tall. The handles are actually door knockers from a store my girlfriend works at. Not their orginal purpose but they'll work all the same.

I am about to build one of these. I need the drain to be on the left hand side due to where I am putting it.
If you used the same chest in V1 and V2, how did you get the drain on the left in v2? Did you just rotate the bottom part of the chest?

Yes I just rotated it. I actually did it accidentally. I was just about finished when I realized what I did and panicked a little. Turns out it'll work either way. Post your results once you're finished.
My girlfriend's parents loved the one we gave them for Christmas. They used it for Christmas Day when they had all the family over and it looks like I might've picked up a couple orders too.
