Thanks to Portland 2 weeks ago and a couple other teams last year buying up existing teams, 20 NBA teams are scheduled to share only 6 D-League teams next season. (10 of 30 NBA teams have deals/ownership). There are 16 D-League teams. It's about time for D-League expansion but they claim they economy sucks right now and they "want to make sure the existing teams are in the right market".

I remember when Bennett bought the Tulsa 66ers shortly after he moved the Sonics to OKC he paid like $2 million for the team. That was 2008.

I ran across an article yesterday speculating that the NCAA requirements that start in 2015 forcing students athletes to actually be student athletes could push a lot of talent to the DLeague. Now might be a good time to invest in a DLeague team, but it probably won't be until the next lockout/strike in 2017 that they add rules to make it really useful. Currently even if you own a team that doesn't give you exclusive rights to the players playing on it.
