Believe it or not but Mobile was one of the inaugural D-League cities around 2000. This was when the NBA owned all the teams, they were all in the Southeast, there were no NBA team affiliations, and no plan for shuffling players up and down.

Not that I like it, but that's a carnival-themed nickname that I never heard thrown around for the rebrand.
