Message Posted by ThePenIsMightier Whoever he is needs to look at booking Super Water Sympathy. They are a good North La band. A double bill with Givers would be solid.

I'm friends with the guys in that band, the hargroves. I hope to see them there

And the givers

well, that was to be expected, he's booked the givers in nola several times.

he's going to hit some REAL homeruns now that he has his own venue to book at.

should be a fun ride.

Heard the new guy, AB, really likes the nose candy.

Not sure where you get information from, but i know the new talent manager personally and he isn't in to "nose candy", dude worked his arse off and earned a respectable reputation as a talent buyer all over the south when he was working with Simple Play Presents.

Don't be so quick to pass judgement.

Should we start throwing out names of bands we'd like to see AB try to book for the Varsity?

I had to laugh at that. if he were, he'd be a little bit skinnier

I'll start with:

1. Foals (once their new album is out, and they decide to hop the pond to the US again)
2. Grouplove - My fiancé is obsessed with them
3. M83 - They may have too big of a draw, but one can dream (and yes, I do plan on going to the HOB show)
4. Anything bluegrass or Texas country
5. Gary Clark Jr.
6. Apache Relay (their semi-recent Parish Room set was awesome)
7. Band of Skulls
8. Scott H. Biram (but, Doc, we need to do work to get more people in BR interested and to get him willing to come back to BR)
9. Alabama Shakes
10. Manchester Orchestra - another of the fiancé's favs
11. Explosions in the Sky - yeah right. That will never happen
12. The Sheepdogs

... Go ahead with some of your choices.
