I was in the same boat last year...which is to say not in a boat.

I drove down to the West end of the island and park at the fort. Walk down to the beach where it opens up into the pass. Fish the West side of beach (where it makes the right angle into the bay) for trout and white trout. May catch some other stuff too. Now, as for Dixie Bar, if you look at the charts, you'll see it's too far to wade out to unless it is almost DEAD calm. Even if it was, I'm not sure you could wade to get out there. I caught a bunch of hardheads, but it passed the time. Sand Fleas also work well out there.

Give it a shot...its pretty cool to fish with an old Confederate Fort at your back. Makes you wonder if there wasnt some young lad back in '62 that tried his hand at catching something before that damned Farragut came along.
