One of the aspects around The Dark Knight Rises that I find interesting is that WB is allowing Nolan to "finish" his Batman story.

Has this happened before, where a franchise this large has an "end" on the big screen? To clarify, I am not talking about "well the studio knows this is the last one so lets close the story", more along the lines of the main character no longer functioning after the movie.

Do you think killing Bruce Wayne or just Batman is too risky for WB? How long after TDKR would you be willing to pay for a new Batman movie?

At least 10 years.

Are you assuming Wayne dies?

No, but there is a possibility that Nolan kills Batman and maybe even Wayne.

If not, Nolan has stated that he will end the movie in a way that Wayne's story cannot be continued.

This will be the first franchise that I know of that will effective have a conclusion and depending on how epic it is, it could be a long time (decade plus) before we see another Batman movie. The trend in Hollywood is to reboot and reboot fast. With the money Batman brings in, I doubt they will let it sit on the shelf for too long but if the TDKR proves to be a great conclusion to the trilogy, they can't really turn around and just start over within the next five years.

I'm interested as to how this finishes off. Like you said, its not everyday that you see a comic hero's story effectively end. You got to have an end where the hero wins...but in Nolan's world, Batman winning could very well be him giving his life for Gotham.

Agreed. I think Nolan is really going to show the toll that actually being Batman would take on someone over supposedly a decade.

If they rebooted Batman next year people would go see it.

No way in hell! WB will make a JL movie I beat my left nut that there will be another Batman movie in 2-4 YRS. An this time he will be more like the comic book batman so he can relate to superman an the rest of the league.

I really hate to say it, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was another Batman within 5 years. I hope and pray it's because Nolan and Bale aren't done yet, but I think it happens regardless. And everyone would go see it.

Nolan is done as Director after this one. He is staying on to "supervise" the direction of Batman afterwards though. He has stated a passion for the source material. I can't blame him though, he's given nearly 10 years to one franchise.

This would work.

It would be much later, allowing you to get an older actor to play Wayne. Plus, Alfred and Lucias would be gone, and you could "backstory" in Barbara, Nightwing, etc.
