The answer to this can be found in your statement.

Fact, no Big Ten football team has played a home football game in December. Their fans whine about not being able to take advantage of their home fields in winter weather, but they purposely end their seasons to avoid that weather.

Fact.

It gets pretty damned cold and windy in Big Ten country in October and Novemeber on a regular basis.

The only crying about the weather I hear is from the south fearful of the late season cold.

Yeah. It's the combination of wind and cold that makes it tough. November games in Champaign suck because a) it's always cold and b) the wind always seems to be blowing 35 mph which renders the passing game ineffective.

The weather would only effect passing teams like Air Petrino.

Both Bama & LSU play old school cold weather ball control football

I've been to the opener at Wrigley Field and it was cold as frick with snow flurries late in the game.

For southern fans it would suck. for the game itself, i think cold is a bit over rated, unless its Ice Bowl or Bengals v Chargers cold 30-40 I don't think would affect the players. High winds and or heavy snow can be a problem, but so can heavy rain and wind which can happen any time.

also very over rated. The 90's Bills had no problem passing, ditto for Green Bay for the last 20 years now.

You can have 25-30 mph winds with 75 degrees.

no, no it doesnt. check the national averages for weather in oct. and nov in B1G country...

very rarely is there a game influenced by the weather, it happens, but not *that* often ...

Blah,Blah,Blah last I checked Buffalo was not a college football team

Penn State, Michigan, Ohio State,Michigan Wisconsin,Iowa, Nebraska all run first teams for a reason

The only schools that chuck the rock are the out recruited Purdue & Northwestern.

Illinios ran a spread option in Zook's glory years
when Juice Williams was QB.

I have no clue what Indiana does other than wait for hoops

Exactly. Wind has the biggest effect on the passing game, not temperature.

Air Arkansas would catch hell coming to the mountains of Pennsylvania in late season, if you think they would play the exact same game in Sept, you have never been north of Tupelo after Halloween

ETA Bama on the other hand plays the same game

and last time i checked it gets even colder in Dec and Jan, when they are still playing games and they still use the same cliche's about not being able to pass in the cold in the pros.

yeah, their local recruiting base produces a lot of good OL and defensive players. why are LSU, Bama, FSU etc all defensive oriented teams?

I thought Penn State and Michigan back in the 90's were more of a prostyle offense.

I was at a game in Happy Valley in the 80s where we were in shirtsleeves at the beginning of the game and by the end of the game we'd been in rain, sleet and snow. You sit there in that damned stadium and watch the weather come at you.

Sports cliches 101.

You've already mention BiG teams that chuck it around like Purdue. BC has been a pro style offense. Pitt was a pro style passing offense in the past. Oh and Oklahoma is not exactly Miami Beach in Nov and Dec either.

Wind will frick up passing games, it can be windy any time of year.

someone aware brady hoke they are now a run first team.

half the B1G is pass *heavy* or at least 45/55. the "three-yards in a cloud of dust" cliche is old and abused.

Big 10 is more concerned with making sure a big 10 team makes the championship/playoffs than anything else regardless of its a deserving team or if a playoff move would benefit the league more overall.

If pro style was Kijana Carter's success forcing 9 men in the box to stop the run allowing Kerry Collins to pass I guess they were pro-style
