I've had my boss walk in my office and say, "You see that thread about..."

I have no idea what I would do at work if not for TD

TWT, you seem to be in the know re: CCA. Who's in charge there nowadays? For LA CCA?

Not the tourney nor the cause I have issues with.

Well, you gonna let it out or what? Good luck--this ain't the LAS board.
I don't know what the LAS board is, so if there's a Fishhead there, it ain't me. However, one of my issues with CCA is that I felt a few years ago they were not interested in the concerns of their members, just their member$hip$$$. I was a member when I lived in LA, and also when I moved to MS. I was a member until about 2 years ago when I realized I already have a Nautic Star and a truck, and STAR was the ONLY incentive I had left to be a member of CCA. I don't know who is on the board or whatever anymore, and maybe things have changed. But I promise you I'm not the only one that felt the way I did a couple years back. And I have no clue about what Treble Hook was talking about...that has nothing to do with my feelings on CCA.
I think CCA rested on it's laurels an awful long time based on their absolute success with redfish TWENTY YEARS AGO. IMO, it's the last thing of any real consequence they've truly accomplished, other than putting on a chitty redfish tourney, doing it from a chitty port to hold a redfish tourney, and putting a great summer long tourney like STAR.

what about all the artificial reefs going out these days? They fight the commercials in the legislature every year to maintain the status quo for recreational fishermen, b/c the commercials are always trying to slip back in the door.

I've heard complaints that they are in it for the money, but they still do a ton for recreational fishing. No one else is. The biggest compainers seem to be commercials and the guys bitching about private property access.

Not in the know. I use to go to several CCA banquets a year is all. I haven't been in 3 or 4 years but still enroll for the star tournament.

The 'private water' issue is one thing, but that's not it. And I'm not a commercial fisherman. The reefs are good...I've been out of town pretty much nonstop since 2008, so although I did know about that, I didn't realize their involvement.

CCA took part in attempting to ban bowfishing a few years ago. That's bullchit. That, along with being a member for several years in two different states, and feeling like the only thing they were concerned about was my money. I would email them regarding different things, such as private water, bowfishing, you name it...even to discuss the CCA Redfish tourney they held out of Slidell every spring, with absolutely ZERO response...not one single reply...even though they would basically ask for emails and suggestions/complaints, whatever. But they ignored them all. Not just mine...every email from everyone I know that ever emailed them. I got tired of paying money to an outfit that claims to want active members, but in reality, only wants members money, and won't even do so much as lend an ear to the members concerns.
The chit hit the fan for me a couple years ago when the IFA had their Bay St. Louis tourney scheduled on a specific date, and the CCA had theirs scheduled a couple weeks early. I and others had been for years suggesting the CCA utilize a place like BSM for their tourney, or move the date to later in the year, because EVERY single year, the tourney was either postponed for a couple hours, weeks, or had to be a last minute call due to weather and the concerns of competitors crossing Lake Borgne and Lake Ponchatrain. I mean, this is a redfish tourney...why hold it at Rigolets or The Dock, when 90% of the competitors are going to fish the Hopedale/Delacroix areas? Anyway, they (again) had to postpone it, and then...instead of working around the IFA event (which the IFA made PLEAS for them to do), they rescheduled it right on top of the IFA event. So then, people that had paid to fish both now had to make a choice. Some made the choice to fish the IFA because they were pissed at CCA. Others made a financial decision (guides that were hired by individuals to fish the CCA tourney) and fished CCA. Some good IFA teams missed the IFA tourney because of it. It just showed me their complete and total disrespect, and the lack of concern about what their members care about. So I quit giving them my money.
You don't have to like it. I never said they were a bad organization (in theory). But the old GCCA from the 80's and 90's was a much better organization less tied to politics...back when it was truly grass roots and gave a shite about it's members. Back then, it's members all had a common cause, and were passionate. They got it done, too...

not a fan of bowfishing, and i can see the rationale behind limiting it. Sometimes arrogance leads to scheduling issues. I see it in soccer tourneys all the time. Ultimately, I think CCA does alot for recreational fishermen, so I will continue to support them. Plus, the STAR tourney is enjoyable to fish, and gets me out there more.

I have never bowfished, so I'm not necessarily a 'fan' of it either. My problem with trying to BAN it is an organization like CCA doesn't need to go around trying to BAN ANY kind of legal fishing. Period. They lost a lot of members with that stupidity.

I need no further motivation to fish other than the love of fishing. CCA didn't provide that for me...Pow Pow did.
