But most punk bands don't churn out their best work in their second decade. I'm just tired of people who have no punk credentials themselves saying Green Day isn't punk enough. Yeah, I didn't see you at the Rites of Spring show either. If Ian MacKaye wants to say Green Day isn't punk enough, I'll listen. But he doesn't give a shite.

Green Day sucks dude. They are the most obnoxiously sold out band i can think of. Here they are when they started and when their music was worth a shite:
I'm tired of the whole "sell out" argument too! Whenever an "underground" band hits big, many of the old fans say they "sold out". When they sold records, they "sold out". When Billie Joe Armstrong started wearing mascara, they "sold out".
bullshite. They make good music and it gets popular. If you don't like it, fine.
My bro was a DJ at KLSU in the late 80's-early 90's. REM, darling of the college radio scene in the 80's, was considered a "sellout" in the 90's. Wow, they started actually making a good living in music, so college radio shunned them. More bullshite. Don't play them, fine. Don't call them "sellouts".
Are YOU a sellout because you find that you do something great at work, so you do that job and get paid more for it?

Good post. The term sell out in reference to the music business is so overly, and wrongly used.

Not giving a shite is the correct response for true punks.

The Church of True Punk is the most orthodox denomination on the planet, ever.

I think "true punk" AND Green Day are garbage. 4 power chords can only take you so far.

Yes sir! Agreed. There's a handful of us on here with that specific taste in music you're referring to.
