I'm watching a documentary on the History Channel 2 on Jim Jones and the Jonestown massacre.

I'm just curious if there has ever been a movie made about this event? It seems as if it would make a great movie.

It may just be me, but I think it would be a perfect Hollywood movie.

It could be about the Jones/ Congressman Ryan angle.

I love historical based movies.

I'm still waiting on a Pablo Escobar movie.

I played Bass in a band years ago called Mrs Frazier. We had a copy of the tape where Jones is talking to his followers during the drinking of the poison. At the end of the tape he states "And now we will hear from Mrs Frazier" and an old lady begins to sing. We would use this tape to open our shows and cut it off as she started singing. A lot of people used to ask us who was that on the tape. Hence the name Mrs Frazier.

I heard the actual audio from that when I was way too young, and that stuff scarred me for life.

And TideHater: that is messed up!

Nice Memory.

I think Josh Brolin would be a good Jim Jones if there was another telling of the tragedy.

I've always been fascinated with the Jonestown story. A movie could be awesome.

Thanks for the heads up on the doc. I haven't seen it yet and it's replaying at 11:00

Very good documentary. Hard to believe 1/3 of the people who died were children.

I could see Val Kilmer as Jim Jones.

I still remember when it came on the news when the U.S. networks finally got a hold of the footage. I was just a kid, but man it was really surreal. All those people on the ground, families arm in arm. And the footage from the airport showing the killing of the congressman and his aides and the reporters.

Crazy shite. Kind of prepared me for shite like James Huberty (McDonald's in San Ysidro, CA; David Koresh; Heavan's Gate; etc.). Let me know at a young age that there were nuts in this world (although I lived next door to a Vietnam vet who didn't have a good go of it in the jungle . )

There was one years ago with Powers Boothe as Jim Jones. I think it was a made for TV movie, or maybe a miniseries.
