That's mostly because we were out of the undefeated conversation two games into the season. The sympathy was constant and effusive, but we just weren't in that particular conversation long enough for it to be a factor.

That is true. But it does not change the fact that in 2005, the only stories bigger than the SC snubbing/split title of '03 were the Trojans march to a repeat and the tragedy of Katrina. And all three of those stories would have been served up front and center by an LSU/SC showdown.
