Having DLineman occassionally drop into coverages or using DB's as LB's like he likes to do is not a formula I like. Use real LB's, turn your DLineman loose all the time and let them do what they do best.

smallish DB's as LB's tend to get ridden out of the way very easily by huge OLineman when running in case you hadn't noticed. and turning loose Dlineman to rush instead of trying to have them read the damn QB would have put more increasing pressure on McCarrons arse instead of allowing him to sit in the pocket for more time to pass.

We haven't been able to land those type of LBs for whatever reason. We have some mules in there now so we'll see. Just stop blaming 1/9 on the defense.

eta: For the last time. We went after AJ alot. We couldn't get to him. He was getting rid of the ball too quick. Bama had that revenge thing you've been hanging on to in regards to UGA '04. If we played the BCSNCG 10 times I'm not sure we'd win 1.

And fwiw, Saban routinely dropped Hill and Spears back into to coverage too.

McCarron got rid of it quickly because we had our CB 'The Honeybadger' covering their recievers too much! I guess we can't have two Elite NFL shutdown, top 5 picks, type of corners forever as in Claiborne and Petterson. With Ty having an expanded role this year should we get used to it?

Nahh.

Seriously though, one cannot diss Chavis right now.

His system will get tested against Bama and maybe one to two other teams a year. By that I mean, our defensive system is set-up better to shut-down the other 98% of colleges out there from Oregon- Oklahoma St.- texas AM- Arkansas.

Alabama's system is suited more to play a team like LSU, Georgia, or itself. They will match-up well with the teams that are big and strong enough to try and slam the ball right up-field. Problem is that the majority of the teams in college football don't try and do this anymore.

I'll take our style for now. There was once a time, a few years back, that our defenses were as dominate as bama now (same coach). But those teams seemed more succeptable to loosing to offenses like OK State's. our defense now, can spread out and kill all these clown-teams.

As for Bama. Well I have noticed that we return the best stable of running backs in the nation, an upgrade at quarterback, and an offensive line that touts BOTH GUARDS AND BOTH TACKLES BEING AT LEAST 6'5" AND 320LBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

let's get it on.
