Aww so close to a third in a row.

Who would have thought that the Cubs would currently have the best first basemen in the NL Central? (Of course, Votto will take his rightful spot at the top shortly).

Looks like a pretty good bet that LaHair will be the Cubs' All-Star this year. I didn't expect that from him.

Castro will also be an All-Star. Hell, Dempster (and longshot Garza) even have a chance.

Bryan LaHair went 2-for-3 and knocked in the only run of the game as the Cubs beat the Braves on Wednesday.

LaHair's remarkable start continues. In 86 at-bats this season, he has 33 hits and 30 strikeouts. Throw in the 16 walks and just 23 percent of his plate appearances have ended with a fielder making a play to retire him.

Not a cubbies fan, but I think LaHair gets 30 bombs and bats .275 or higher.

It really is starting to look like he's going to either command a hell of a return come June/July or the Cubs are going to get rid of Soriano and DeJesus and play LaHair in a corner outfield spot.

It looks like this guy wants to stay around in the majors. The reason I think that is because he's taking his pitches, he's making solid contact most AB's, and he's willing to take pitches to the opposite field.

(This was taken a few days ago.)

I'm pretty opposed to trading LaHair. He's dirt cheap and won't be eligible for arbitration until 2015, free agency until 2018.

We'd have to eat a huge piece of Soriano's contract to trade him, assuming anyone wants him.

DeJesus' contract isn't that cheap either, and has 2 years left on it.

As far as I'm concerned, it's up to the front office to figure when this team is really going to contend. The way they've been playing lately, it might be as early as next year. If that's the case, maybe holding on to LaHair isn't a bad idea. On the other hand, he's 29. And somebody might really be willing to overpay, BIG TIME, for a 29 year old rookie. Just think about that for a second. To me, I would say everyone but Castro is available.

Fine, eat away. He's fricking terrible.

Just the rest of this year and next year with a club option of $6M on the third. That ain't gonna happen with just a $500K buyout. He's servicable and can help somewhere. I don't think the Cubs brought him on to be an answer for anything but get them a decent prospect at the trade deadline.

Dempster is pitching really well. Boston will need pitching. The Nats need catcher help. I think the Cubs will do well near the deadline this year. At least I hope so.
