I just got off the phone with the DOR. My amendment I filed on the 25th of April was rejected. An auditor is supposed to look at my amendment again and call me back today or tomorrow. It sounded like the memo hasn't made its round yet.

LSUalum2000,

Thanks for the confirmation. The interpretation of the beginning date of purchase of these vehicles really makes me concerned about the interpretation of the law itself.

The date of purchase of the vehicles is now as the Act reads. See response to inquiry below.

Dear Cathy,

Thank you for your inquiry below. The RIB and the statute was reviewed and it was found that the July 9, 2009 date in the RIB was incorrect. In short, the credit can be taken on a qualified flex fuel vehicle that was purchased by the taxpayer on and after January 1, 2009.

A new RIB which corrects the date has been prepared and sent to LDR’s IT division to be posted to our website. Hopefully, the new RIB will be posted no later than tomorrow by noon. Thank you so much for your patience and the information below.

Thanks,

Policy Services Division

This is going to sound dumb. But would one file this credit on their state return?

I'm not sure what tax filing software you use (assumming you do your own taxes), but I know on H&R Block when filling out the State return there was a section where you are supposed to check all of the credits that apply. The Alternative Fuel Credit was one of the choices. After you check off that credit, it will bring you to another page where you will give the program additional information. Then when you file, it will suggest that you provide supporting documentation for your Alternative Fuel Credit. I did like some of the other posters on this site suggested and attached my bill of sale, Louisiana state registration and your window sticker.

I am dumbfounded at how dumb our state is for allowing this credit for all E85 Flex Fuel vehicles....oh well, take it while they are handing it out

It's finally a break for those who support the economy...rather than Louisiana Purchase, WIC, Medicaid, etc. It may be stupid, but it's no more stupid than the aforementioned entitlements being abused.

Larry,

The credit is available for vehicles purchased on and after January 1, 2009. You can file an amended return to claim the credit and receive your refund.

I guess it's alright to keep adding to the stupidity.

Bill of Sale
Registration with the State

These are all that are required, some have been including a copy of their window stick as well.

I amended my 2009 and only included the Bill of Sale and Registration, under explanation for amendment i wrote "Taxpayer failed to claim their credit for the purchase of an alternative fuel vehicle. They have attached all necessary documentation required to claim this credit"

Got my 3,000 plus interest 5 week later.

+1 except amended for 2010 and money was in my account exactly 12 days later.
