Will a 600 Hz TV be choppy when gaming on it?

Plasma? If so, you definitely don't have to worry about the refresh rate. Plasmas are great for sports and video games because they aren't choppy at all, but you can expect a little burn-in unless you really let the tv break in before you watch or play anything with static images.

Don't watch anything with static images for the first 100 hours or so. That definitely means no sports and pretty much no video games during that period.
eta: I didn't let mine break in so it has EA Sports burn-in and ESPN burn-in. It's really not a big deal though. The only time I notice it is when the screen is completely white where the burn-in is, which is almost never. Overall, I'm very happy with my Samsung PN51D550.

ETA: just bought the RCA 42" Plasma that someone posted on the OT for my boys room... couldn't beat the price. Just gonna have to make sure they dont pause anything for any extending period of time.

The newer plasmas have a feature that will make the pixels jump around ever so slightly. You can't notice it but it helps to prevent burn in. It isn't an issue with plasmas as much as it used to be.

Mine's fairly new, and it still got burn-in, but I watch a ton of sports, and play a lot of sports games. It really doesn't bother me since I rarely notice it, though.

The burn-in on mine wasn't due to pausing. It was due to the score always being displayed in the same place in sports and sports games.

mine has a little burn in.. really cant notice it unless you really look for it. nbd to me

Mine is the exact same. The next tv I get will still be a plasma but I'm gonna try a little harder to break it in this time

Plasma TVs are not 600 Hz. They are 10 zones each being 60 Hz. Therefore it is a 60 HZ TV. For some reason..the manufacturers can get away with calling it 600 Hz..which is ridiculously misleading.

Burn-in is also caused because people don't set brightness and contrast to the proper level. They leave the TV in torch mode and then experience burn-in.
Put the TV in Movie mode and make sure brightness and contrast are bost below 50%. Your TV will thank you. Digital Video Essentials is a great way to get a halfway decent setup on your TV if you are an amateur at calibration.

I'd rather have it look accurate. Plasmas are extremely bright out of the box. There are plenty of lumens coming off of the screen with brightness and contrast at more reasonable levels.

I just checked my settings. Contrast is at 95 and brightness at 56, but it looks perfect to me.

It's like redlining your car. As long as you realize that you are reducing the effective life of the set and can live with it I see no issue.
At the end of the day it is about what looks best to the user. It may not be accurate but you like it. Just realize you are at a much higher risk of burn-in by running contrast so high.

I have a Samsung PN50B650 and love it.
Had it a few years after my 2009 model broke on it's own. Samsung came and picked it up, said they couldn't fix it, and sent me a brand new 2010 model to replace it.
Excellent customer service from Samsung, sold me on them possibly for life.
As for the Burn-In, yeah my Pixel Shift is set to every 30 seconds I believe, max settings. No burn in after 2 years here, and all I watch is sports and play video games mostly.
