Never been to Austin but Baton Rouge sucks so this does not surprise me. Other than LSU, Baton Rouge is one of the worst cities out there...

You haven't been many places. Baton Rouge isn't a prize pig or anything, but you could do A LOT worse.

No

But Austin and BR aren't even on the same level. I don't think I can think of anything about Austin that isn't better than BR.

re: Austin >>>>>> Baton Rouge

Austin is probably the most overrated city in the country. It's a nice little town with some decent outdoorsy stuff, nothing more. The town itself is pretty ugly, the traffic is awful, and it's full of people who think every cool little thing about their surrounding is unique.

At a bar with a band playing? "Guys, this is so Austin.

See some bum with a funny sign? "Guys, this is so Austin.

When your best food is BBQ 45 minutes away and breakfast tacos (eggs and beans on a tortilla with comically spicy sauce) from a truck, I'm not really happy to be there. Plus, the drinks all over town are weak pours unless you are on Dirty 6th, which you shouldn't have any interest in going to if you are no longer a teenager.

Add in the fact that you're in Longhorn hell and in the capitol of fricking Texas for crying out loud.

Oh yeah, and the music blows. Alt rock stopped being cool 15 years ago.

That said, Baton Rouge ain't shite either, but at least it's close to New Orleans and Laffy and you don't have to listen to hipsters and bobos fawning over loud, shitty music sung by people who "don't want to necessarily place a label on our music, but our influences are the Talking Heads, Michael Jackson, and Billie Holliday."

I'll pass. Geaux Tigers.

I had some pretty good food the couple times I went there. Better than other parts of texas, at least.

Austin is a shitty Portland, and I can't stand Portland.

Portland is Austin but beautiful and with great public transit. Still terrible food and a bunch of white people who think they live in some sort of cultural mecca.

Yeah, the food isn't anything to write home about

No way, ACL, SXSW, tons of good non alt rock shows all the time. Every band under the sun plays in Austin nowadays.

New Orleans and Laffy and you don't have to listen to hipsters and bobos

Those places are less pretentious, but you won't really find anywhere else in the country with the vibe of south LA

You've got to eat and run! There's no letting your food settle once you go 50k plus. It sounds like B is getting back at it after dealing with that injury.
