i think this is always the Saints plan. we know who we are: a very high powered offense that needs a D that can manage a game.
it will be very interesting to see how our team mentality changes (if at all) with 2 defensive guys calling the shots. Vitt already (jokingly) said that they took defense first in the draft, while payton wouldve looked harder at offense.
with vitt and spags in the big leadership positions, you have to believe defense will be at the forefront of everyones minds. Drew, once signed, will work with Carmichael and maintain the high level of success.

Gallette has been saying his goal for next year is 15 sacks or better. Let's hope he gets at least half of that.

I have a feeling Romeus is going to be a dominant DL in the NFL for a longtime. His speed and knowledge of what is going on around him reminds me of Jared Allen.

Bunkley is a solid, solid pickup. His stats are no indication of what he does. Denver will miss the hell out of this guy
Jordan showed development as the season progressed. Seemed like the guy was always close to getting a sack. Keep in mind he came onto the scene during the lockout era. He will have full time to develop before the season.
Ellis must play to his level, simple as that. He is on thin, thin ice. Tired of seeing the guy underperform. Maybe a spark will be lit, maybe he'll be used properly.
Smith: He is our best D-linemen. Assuming he will suffer a suspension, when he gets back, what could be more of a motivating factor to play a high level than this? He loves being a part of the Saints organization, potential career year.
Gallete: Came on strong during the season. Has a high-motor style of playing. Could end up being a very solid player in the league.
Players who will prove to be steals:
Romeus will be a steal from last years draft along with Wilson, and how much having a solid LB core will help this team on the defensive side can not be understated. I'm including Wilson because he will be the hybrid player. I see this guy being huge for us on the pass rush.
The X-factor:
We also finally have a Def. Coordinator in Spags who will possibly be able to utilize players to their full potential. If you look on paper, we have a pretty damn good defense. Spags has a good set of players to work with.

we now have another DT in our first pick, hicks.
how often did we rush three and drop eight on third down last year? I know its a random question but it seemed like if we were not blitzing, which was rare, this is what we would do. They had Ellis lined up over center and Jordan and Smith rushing off the edge. I'm guessing Spags will use more of a four man rush and I'm curious to see if this Hicks kid can provide a push up the middle.

I actually like that pick in the 3rd round.
But the kid is super duper raw.
While his upside is huge, I don't think he'll add much of a push or rush this year...or even play that much.

He will play. DT is one of the positions on a football field that can rotate players in and out more times in a series than any other position. I would say the next position in that line would be RB depending on the offense.

Yeah, I'm coming around to liking the pick also. At first, I wasn't sure what to think, I really didn't know who he was to be honest. As far as his impact next year, your guess is as good as mine. I'd like to think he'll get a lot of reps, no better way for a player who is raw to get better anyway. You would think he'll mainly see the field on passing downs though
