3 wins, 1.73 ERA, 25 Ks,

I'm 3rd on waivers so I think I have a good chance of adding him.

Hammel is off to a fantastic start and his fantasy stats show it. Few pitchers can boast three wins, an ERA under 2.00, a WHIP at 1.00 and almost as many strikeouts as innings pitched. This could be the last chance to grab him if his explosion on to the scene continues. Hammel faces road games against the Yankees and Red Sox next week.

Don't get your hopes up so high, he's going to come back down to earth. Toronto, CWS, and the Twins are the teams he's shut down. Worth the speculative add right now, just don't expect ace like production to last the course of the year(not even the next month honestly).

The Jays and Sox can hit

Hammel is missing bats. That says a lot.

They certainly can and will hit, but just haven't yet.

Missing bats isn't the issue with Hammel... they stuff has always been there. He's always been inconsistent which is evident by his career numbers. Has the light bulb suddenly come on? It certainly could have but given his track record, to expect even a solid 3 would be reaching.

Oriole Park while not Coors friendly, still considered a hitter's ball park. Nasty division to be in also... not to mention the rest of the potent AL lineups. Odds are stacked high against him if one expects an ERA lower than 3.8 when it's all said and done... and I'm probably being generous.

I grabbed Chris Capuano (LAD) recently in a couple of my leagues. 2.73 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 3 wins through 5 starts. Also has 29 Ks through 29 innings. Only owned in 19% of leagues. I bet that changes if he has one more good game.

Chris Capuano always has a good stretch in him. He will finish with an ERA nearing 5 when it's all said and done.

Is Hammel a must start at this point?
