Ratings are only opinions. Many still disagree with you. Doesnt make you wrong, doest make them wrong.

What did you need to know about the ending?

Ultimacia had the power to compress time. Which is what happened after the defeat. Everyone had to find their way home. They did.

You mean at the end, when it kind of looked like Rhinoa was Ultimecia, but earlier you saw that ultimecia went back in time until after Rhinoa was borne, then a tripped out 20 minute long FMV that didnt really contribute anything to the story ended with a 20 minute credit FMV that honestly seemed like it was just a dream for Squall?

Late to the party, but has it become cool to hate on 7?

Anyways, of the ones I've played:
7
6
12
11
8
9
5

10

13

played about half of 1 and 3/4 of 4, but haven't finished so I won't rank em.

Square has neither confirmed nor denied that Rhinoa is ultimecia.

But in Final Fantasy Dissidia, Ultimecia uses Rhinoas weapons from FF8.

Regardless the game makes no sense, and Time compression makes no sense. And the end FMV is just an acid trip because the developers obviously didnt care anymore.

No, the percentage of people informed about video games has increased, and it isnt cool to just rattle on about FF7 anymore because it is a safe bet.

It is a good game, but nothing more.

You can't deny that at the time FF7 was groundbreaking and amazing though. I remember playing it at my friend's house til 4 in the morning in 7th grade and rewatching FMVs in awe.

It is extremely hard for me to refute Final Fantasy comments without posting spoilers, so lets all agree to disagree. Everyone's opinion is valid in this context.

Especially sense technically and gameplay wise, all of the Final Fantasy's but 12 are just wonderful.

FF7 is the Nickelback of this thread.

It is cool to hate them, and people are trendy.

That isnt even fair. Nickelback actually does suck.

It wasn't a total comparison.

Only on the "trendy to hate them"

Nah, a large portion of the video game generation grew up on FF7 and now gamers exist who didnt.

So FF7 isnt the unanimous best game ever anymore.

Because it wasnt the best game ever. It wasnt the best Final Fantasy ever. When It came out it wasnt the best RPG (Chrono Trigger).

It is more trendy to say Final Fantasy 7 was the best game ever than it is to say it wasnt.

Diablo 2 did more for RPGs as a whole than Final Fantasy 7 ever could have.

Are you dense?

I am not saying it is the best game ever. But for the most part, people are bagging on it because the trend exists in this thread.

I didn't rank it as best, but it is better than 10 and 9.

It is not better than 10. With 9 it is a wash.

I played 7 as a kid, and 10 as an adult, and 10 is still better in virtually every way.

The story isnt about clones of clones of clones of clones of alien clones. Blitzball > Chocobo racing. Skill map > Materia. Graphics are a wash if relative to those of the time. And the combat system is light years better.

I played both as an adult, so I guess I can make a better judgement.

10 is not better for 2 reasons:

1) 10 is just 7 all over again, with technical improvements. It is like saying 3-D Star Wars was better than the original.

2) Better sidequests, and better developed side characters. Overall attention to detail in the storytelling.

How is 10 the same as 7?

As I have stated the mini games are different, with the mini game in FFX capable of being a stand alone game. FFX has actual character models, but lacks a world map.

As far as better side quests. FF7 didnt have side quests. It had Yuffie and Vincent, which were cool, but in the end, they hurt the developed side characters arguement. Neither of them meant anything to the story. Several of the FF7 characters might as well sit on your bench.

All of the FFX characters but the witch one were amazing and extremely fleshed out.

That, and FFX had a story that actually made sense, which characters that actually cared about each other.

Maybe flip 10 and 7.

The only thing I knock on 8 for is the progressive difficulty. I loved and hated it.
