Make a couple tall braces and place them on opposite Sides of your sofa. Place the canoe on them and let it be above your head.
This is if you are a college aged apartment dweller and don't care what it looks like.

FWIW, I can't believe no one here has suggested selling the old, loud, heavy, overly reflective canoe and buying a smaller sleeker and more practical kayak.
From experience if that thing has any width to it at all, handling it on open water with even the slightest wind by yourself is going to be a major PIA. You will wind up weighting down one end and it will spin on you with the greatest of ease.
