I'm not going to take apart a Grumman canoe from the 70s. The thing is still rather experience. They were one of the best canoes of their time.
I like your free-standing stand idea. I could easily make one out of wood. My only problem is to have a way to miss the TV as I enter and leave while carrying the canoe.
If I knew someone that lived about 200 yards from the lakes I'd totally store it there. I have no problem portaging a canoe on my shoulders that distance.
That also eliminates the truck cover problem.
